This June we put another successful club meeting in the books! We raised several hundred dollars for the club account, and were able to welcome two brand new members, Jimmy Taylor and Matthew Snowden! It’s always good to see new faces, and it’s even looking like they will be fishing with us this Saturday at Hat Rock.
Matt Fish, Venom Lures Pro Staffer, was our guest speaker, and he gave a nice presentation on his Divisional B.A.S.S experience at Lake Mead, along with introducing the club to Venom Lures and giving away some freebies.
Mel Williams, Powell Rods Pro Staffer, gave us a rundown on fishing Hat Rock.
Mark Westcott more or less stole the show in winning BOTH the 50/50 Raffle and the Mystery Tackle Box door prize!
We are looking to have a pretty decent turnout for Hat Rock; my hope is around 15 boats. It looks like after this tournament, 20 people will be qualified to fish the championship in September! Contention for the Angler of the Year is still up in the air, but currently Mel Williams has a slim lead over Mark Westcott and Rick Dopke. In the Women’s Angler of the Year Standings, Jordan Warren is still holding a firm lead. Victoria McConnell is leading in the Junior Angler of the Year Standings…With still three tournaments left, there could be a lot of shifts, but after Hat Rock the picture will become much more clear.
I want to just take another opportunity to impress on current and new members that this is a catch-and-release club. It is of paramount importance that we are not only practicing catch and release during tournaments, but also while out fun fishing. We must ALL be advocates for conservation of the bass species here on the river. WDFW is seeking to eliminate our resource, and we must take action. It starts with each one of us.
Well….It will be a hot one this weekend! There should be some quality bags brought to the scales, though. Drink plenty of water and stay cool out there! Good luck fishing!
